Renewable plants combine fast-switching power electronics with multi-megawatt energy flows, exposing resistors to extreme pulse-energy and DC-arc stresses. Wind turbines use pitch-system dynamic-braking resistors (typ. 3–30 Ω, 25–100 kW continuous) and DFIG crowbar resistors that absorb rotor energy during LVRT events per IEC 61400-21. PV string and central inverters depend on pre-charge, discharge, MPPT damping and PID-mitigation resistors at 1500 VDC. Battery-energy-storage (BESS) containers require pre-charge banks for several MJ of capacitor energy and NER (neutral earthing resistors) for the LV ring. What crowbar resistor value is needed for a 5 MW DFIG turbine?
Typical 5 MW DFIG turbines use crowbar resistance 15–30× the rotor self-impedance, i.e. 0.2–0.4 Ω at 690 V rotor side. Pulse-energy budget is 600 kJ in 150 ms (4 MW peak). We deliver edge-wound stainless steel sets with thermal time constant > 30 s so the surface stays below 350°C; insulation withstand 4 kV AC + Um per IEC 61400-1 ed.4. Cabinets are IP54 nacelle-mount with PT100 telemetry into the DTC controller.
Do you support 1500 VDC PV string requirements for next-generation utility-scale plants?
Yes. Our high-voltage and aluminum-housed series carry IEC 60664-1 OV3 / PD2 ratings with creepage > 25 mm/kV, suitable for 1500 VDC continuous and 6 kV impulse. Optional silicone-conformal coat passes IEC 60068-2-30 damp heat 21 days and IEC 60068-2-52 salt spray. We routinely supply Huawei, Sungrow, SMA and Sinexcel central inverter platforms with pre-charge and discharge banks rated for the 1500 VDC bus.
How are NER (neutral earthing resistors) sized for a BESS plant?
Limit single-line-to-ground fault current to 100–400 A per IEEE 32 medium-resistance grounding. For a 35 kV BESS feeder, R = 35,000 / (√3 × 200) ≈ 101 Ω, rated 35 kV / 10 s. We deliver punched stainless-steel grid NERs with porcelain insulators in IP21 indoor or IP54 outdoor enclosures and bypass switch interface for the protection relay (51N / 50G).
What corrosion protection do you provide for offshore wind installations?
Offshore packages use 316L stainless cabinets with C5-M coating per ISO 12944-6 (3000 hrs salt spray). Resistor elements are FeCrAl 0Cr25Al5 grade. Connectors are pre-tinned brass with conductive silicone gel. All bolts are A4-80 stainless with Loctite 243; gland plates pass NEMA 4X. We provide a 25-year corrosion warranty backed by accelerated tropical/cyclic testing per IEC 60068-2-30 + IEC 60068-2-60 method 4.
