Resistors for Defense & Aerospace

Defense and aerospace platforms (radar transmitters, avionics, UAVs, missile guidance, satellite buses) demand resistors qualified per MIL-PRF-39007, MIL-PRF-55342 or GJB 1432 with full lot traceability. Operating envelopes span -55°C to +200°C, 100,000-foot altitude (low-pressure breakdown), 50 g shock per MIL-STD-883 method 2002, and 20 g random vibration per MIL-STD-810. Radar pulse loads can reach 50 kW peak at < 100 µs duty, requiring non-inductive wirewound elements with < 10 nH lead inductance. Power-supply dummy loads on aircraft 28 VDC and 270 VDC HVDC buses must clear DO-160G section 22 lightning indirect-effects. Hongyi delivers screened parts to MIL-STD-202 method 108 (life test) and 105 (humidity) with PDA (Percent Defective Allowable) ≤ 0.1% and TAA-compliant country-of-origin documentation.

Key Requirements

Key Requirements

  • Operating range -55°C to +200°C, full performance at 100,000 ft altitude
  • Shock 50 g, 11 ms half-sine; random vibration 20 g RMS per MIL-STD-810
  • Lot traceability with C of C, QPL listing and country-of-origin per TAA / ITAR
  • Non-inductive (< 10 nH) construction for radar pulse and RF dummy loads
  • Conformal coating or hermetic seal for salt-fog, sand-dust, and fungus per MIL-STD-810
  • Lightning indirect-effects survival per DO-160G section 22 for avionics buses
How to Select

How to Select

  1. Specify QPL or QML number when possible — MIL-PRF-39007 (wirewound), MIL-PRF-55342 (chip), GJB 1432B (CN)
  2. Request 100% group A electrical screening plus group B / C / D quality conformance per spec
  3. Confirm derating ≥ 50% at +85°C and ≥ 70% at +200°C for hot-spot reliability
  4. For RF / radar pulse loads, verify inductance < 10 nH and VSWR < 1.2 to 6 GHz
  5. Specify ITAR / EAR jurisdiction up front; many counter-UAS / missile programs require US-sourced
  6. Require Certificate of Conformance with lot date, source raw materials, and PIND test (where applicable)

Frequently asked questions

Are your defense-grade resistors TAA and ITAR compliant?
Our standard product is TAA-compliant when sourced from our TAA-designated country (PRC under USML category not restricted). For ITAR-controlled programs we partner with a US-cleared distributor who can supply MIL-PRF-39007 parts from US-territory inventory with full chain-of-custody documentation. Country-of-origin certificates are issued on every lot, and we support DLAR audits with 7-year retention.
What screening level do you offer for satellite power supplies?
For LEO/GEO satellite bus applications we offer Class S equivalent screening per MIL-PRF-55342: 100% visual + DPA, burn-in 168 h at +125°C, PIND test, and serialized data packs. Total ionizing dose (TID) tolerance up to 100 krad (Si) on selected thick-film and bulk-metal foil parts. Lead times 16–20 weeks; minimum lot 50 pcs to amortize the qualification flow.
Can you supply non-inductive resistors for a 5 kW S-band radar dummy load?
Yes. Our HV-thick-film 50 Ω non-inductive resistors handle 5 kW CW with 10 kW peak at 1 ms pulse, VSWR < 1.15 from DC to 4 GHz, < 8 nH series inductance. Mounted on a copper heat-spreader with N-type or 7/16 DIN connector. Optional thermal cut-out at +120°C and forced-air cooling reach 10 kW CW. Used in Lockheed and Raytheon radar test benches.
Do your parts survive DO-160G section 22 lightning indirect-effects tests?
Yes. We test selected aluminum-housed and high-voltage resistors to DO-160G section 22 Level 3 (Waveform 3 / 4 / 5A): 750 V peak open-circuit, 750 A peak short-circuit, with the resistor connected in the line. Survival means no resistance shift > 5% and no flashover. Test report with oscilloscope captures supplied per part number on request.
